Public Works Departement
The Village of Medina Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure and essential services that help keep our village safe, functional, and beautiful. From maintaining village roads and sidewalks to managing seasonal cleanup efforts and supporting public safety infrastructure, the DPW plays a vital role in the daily life of our community.
Street Lighting
If you’re experiencing issues with a streetlight – such as outages, flickering, or damage – you may contact the Department of Public Works to report the issue. Our team works closely with utility providers to ensure timely repairs and consistent lighting in residential and commercial areas, promoting both visibility and public safety.
Branch & Brush Removal
Branch and brush removal within the Village of Medina is handled in accordance with safety guidelines and local responsibility. The DPW chips branches and cleans up debris only from village-owned trees, particularly after windstorms or during scheduled maintenance conducted by village staff.
In the past, when resources allowed, the DPW extended cleanup to include residential branch debris; however, due to limited manpower and increased demand, this service is now limited to public property. Residents are reminded that under Orleans County tax-funded services, bundled branches and brush from privately owned trees are collected through regular trash pickup as long as the bundles are no longer than 4 feet and under 40 pounds.
If a private tree service is hired for trimming or tree removal, the service provider is responsible for removing all debris from the site. The Village DPW does not enter private property for chipping or branch disposal under any circumstances. Residents who trim trees themselves must follow bundling guidelines to ensure proper removal by the waste contractor.
