Division of Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement and Building Division of the Village of Medina plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, character, and integrity of our community. This division is responsible for the enforcement of the Village Code, along with all applicable New York State and Orleans County laws, statutes, ordinances, codes, and regulations that fall under the jurisdiction of village government.

Key duties include conducting routine inspections to ensure that residential, commercial, and public properties comply with zoning and safety regulations. The Division also investigates reported or observed violations related to property maintenance, construction practices, fire safety, and land use. Whether responding to citizen concerns, reviewing permit applications, or performing on-site evaluations, the team works diligently to uphold the standards that preserve Medina’s unique architecture and community values.

In addition to code and zoning enforcement, this Division oversees the Planning and Zoning Boards, offering guidance on land use approvals, variances, and site plans. The Division also supports development projects along the historic Erie Canal corridor, ensuring all activity aligns with local planning goals and preserves the cultural and environmental significance of the canal. Ultimately, the Division serves under the direction of the Village Board and the Director of the Department, with flexibility to perform additional tasks as community needs arise.
